Wetsuit hanger products are abundant, but there’s none as unique and innovative as the Exit XRail. Aesthetically intriguing, sustainably manufactured and efficiently performing the XRail is a triumph of design and a worthy addition to your windsurfing kit box.
In this review you’ll find the following –
Wetsuit hanger solutions.
A wetsuit hanger should do a few different things. Firstly they should be able to dry your wetsuit efficiently. The idea is to get your rubber dry quickly so you can be on it again in a flash. Your wetsuit hanger should also reduce the damage inflicted by halting creases and avoiding folding. As Exit’s founder and head designer Kieran Sammon says in the video below.
As soon as you fold your wetsuit you run the risk of it creasing. And when this happens there’s a likelihood the neoprene around the fold line will weaken and ultimately fail. This shortens the lifespan of your wetsuit and means it’ll end up landfill quicker than it should. Which isn’t great for the environment. As we all know wetsuits are generally made from petrochemical materials. So increasing longevity is good for the planet and good for your wallet.
The SUX suction up rail for the XRail wetsuit hanger.
As well as the Exit Xrail wetsuit hanger hanger I also tested the SUX suction up rail. This is a nifty add-on product that increases the XRail’s versatility. A sturdy suction cup attaches to most flat surfaces. Then a small alloy pole sticks up which the cantilever XRail wetsuit hanger can fit to.
If out and about the XRail and SUX can be stuck to your vehicle and your wetsuit dried there and then. Without needing to be transported home. Of course, when back at base the SUX can be attached where you deem fit with the XRail in tandem.
XRail wetsuit hanger versatility.
The XRail wetsuit hanger is based on a surfboard shape. Its long arm stretches away from what it attached to in cantilevered form. Originally the XRail was conceived to hang off a shower power in your bathroom. And it’s the only wetsuit hanger that hangs away from its fixing point. This allows air to flow freely around your wetsuit. Efficient ventilation being the key thing to drying your wetsuit thoroughly and quickly. You can see this in the video below.
But there’s more. With multiple ways to hang in mind, you can also rest the rear of the XRail on top of a screw in the wall. There’s a little notch opening designed specifically for this at the back. Or, if you want to fashion a traditional wetsuit hanger, you can use the Exit HUX. Made from recycled fishing nets, the HUX gives you the option to hang the XRail vertically.
Drying your other wetsuit gear – boots, gloves and hood – with the XRail.
The XRail wetsuit hanger isn’t just able to accommodate your wet wetsuit. On the underside, you’ll find five bungee clips to attach your wetsuit hood, gloves and boots. Being able to dry all your kit adds additional value to what’s already a very cost-effective product.
Unlike a conventional wetsuit hanger, the XRail’s sleek and clever design means it doesn’t take up anywhere near as much space. It can be slid discreetly into your kit back and retrieved when needed. The bungee clips mean there are no plastic bits that can get snagged up on your gear.
How the XRail works.
Made from recycled plastic the Exit XRail has a hexagonal honeycomb internal shape. This gives strength to the XRail which can cope with a decent amount of weight without buckling. A wet wetsuit and additional accessories can be pretty heavy. But the Xrail doesn’t budge.
Once in place, the width of the XRail opens up your suit to ventilation. Air then circulates between the layers helping to dry it quickly. And all without stressing the shoulder or neck areas of your wetsuit which many other wetsuit hangers can do.
In practice.
I’ve used the Exit XRail and SUX extensively. In all instances, it does exactly what it says on the tin. The SUX is a great add on that increases the wetsuit hanger’s versatility. Whilst the XRail itself works tremendously well.
Whether out and about at the beach, or at home post-session the XRail is a brilliant wetsuit drying product that looks great as well.
Conclusion.
If you’ve never seen the XRail wetsuit hanger before you wonder initially what it is. But once you’re familiar, and have used it a few times, you’ll be a convert to the Exit XRail and the brand’s whole product range. All are designed and engineered with aesthetic performance in mind courtesy of head honcho Kieran Sammon. Both the Exit XRail and SUX will become integral to your windsurfing sessions.
