The ever colourful, possibly wild, and larger than life Josh Stone was the perfect candidate to take windsurfing to the next level via modern freestyle. An already skilled and formidable wave sailor, Maui based Stone invented the vulcan and soon after the spock. Nowadays these are standard and basic moves for anyone into the art of windsurfing freestyle, yet they remain foundational for riders wanting to progress further.
Josh dominated the freestyle discipline for a few years and helped develop a number of specific bits of equipment with brand sponsors F2 boards and NeilPryde sails. As the level of flat water freestyle increased Josh returned to his first love of waves and began stomping some of his newly invented manoeuvres in this environment. Along with Mark Angulo Josh Stone is one of the most progressive windsurfers of the modern era.
These days Josh still makes regular sojourns to his local break of Ho’okipa whilst keeping busy via his stone baked flatbread restaurant in Pa’ia, Maui.
