Kid’s windsurfing sail review – Nautix Move 2.5m kiddy rig.

Kid’s windsurfing sails aren’t always the easiest to get hold of in the UK. Also, the ones you can get are sometimes engineered for the already planing grom. Those riders are hard to come by. Sometimes you need a kid’s windsurfing sail that’s beyond a beginner type, has decent intermediate performance and will allow your young rider to evolve towards the performance end of the sport. With this in mind, we review the Nautix Move 2.5m.

Kid’s windsurf sail Nautix Move 2.5m first look.

Out of the box and the Nautix Move 2.5m is a quality-looking piece of kit. Made from Dacron, with two full size batten and a stabilising mini leach batten it’s tough and robust.

Rigging with the Nautix reduced diameter kid’s boom (a proper boom I might add) it then sits on a two-piece alloy mast. This wasn’t too keen on. But in practice, I’ve yet to find any issues with it. So all’s well on the mast front…

On the water.

The Nautix Move 2.5m rigs properly. You can put a decent amount of down and outhaul on which gives it a proper kid’s windsurfing sail characteristic. Parent windsurfers will find this familiar.

Out on the brine the Move 2.5m is stable and handles gusts well. My daughter found it a very composed sail even in a blow. She used it in up to 18knts comfortably. And when a gust hits the sail’s efficiency drives the board forwards with gusto.

Cruising in the sun.

Moves and manoeuvres.

The Move 2.5 kid’s windsurfing sail has a faulty long boom. And there’s a positive backhand pressure. Tacks and gybes feel positive when then there’s wind. And even when it’s light the sail’s power drives riders through turns.

Light wind freestyle, such as sail spinning 360s are doable. The rider just has to remember to commit. Especially through ducking moves as the longer boom length needs more oomph to get it into position.  That said the sail’s light weight does help

Kid’s windsurfing sail summary.

The Nautix Move 2.5m kid’s windsurfing sail is a decent ‘tool’ for any aspiring young rider to progress. It inspires confidence and performs well. Build quality is tip-top. I particularly liked the accompanying boom which can also fit RDM masts building in versatility and longevity. My daughter has had a few sessions with the Move 2.5m and loves it. You can’t get a better endorsement than that!
