Mayo Mayhem, Ireland’s premier windsurfing wave competition, is back again for its 3rd year this September on the beautiful beaches of Co. Mayo in Ireland.
Bull Island Windsurfer in conjunction with Pure Magic and the IWA are delighted to announce that we will be running Mayo Mayhem windsurfing event on Achill Island between September 27th to 29th. This event is part of the fantastic “Battle for the Lake Kite and Music Festival” www.battleforthelake.com.
Some information…
The Battle for the Lake is a huge celebration of water sports, music, entertainment, food and many other highlights and surprises, right in the middle of Ireland’s famous WILD ATLANTIC WAY, Achill, Co. Mayo. The three day music festival consists of 3 stages with an impressive line-up of top class bands, DJ sessions and traditional Irish music.
There will also be lots of other actives including firework displays, product demo’s, stand up paddle boarding (SUP) competitions, kid’s DISCO, West African drumming workshops, kid’s kite workshop, “Mega Kid’s Village”, fun rides, giant games, bike tours, curragh boat races, sheep shearing demonstrations and much more!
The festival also features some of the best variety of tasty food and beers a big attraction for the windsurfers and kitesurfers alike.
The event is based at Keel Beach on Achill Island with the option to compete on any of Mayo finest beaches from Belmullet (the windiest place in Europe) to Louisburg. We will choose the location that will provide the best wave sailing conditions on the day. With such a variety of locations to choose from, there is a strong possibility of competing in both Port and Starboard conditions over the weekend.
This year we aim to have 3 fleets, Pro Ams and Ladies. This is a 3 day event so subject to the forecast we hope to run 2 days of competition. The 3rd days will be used for product demonstration, free tuition, surf /sup session, beach clean, fun expression session and what every other fun stuff we can think off.
Mayo Mayhem 2017 delivered epic conditions with very strong winds and over mast high waves. 2018 was a lot mellower with side shore head high waves. Hopefully 2019 will be the best yet.

We hope you can be part of the Magic and Mayhem that is Battle for the Lake and Mayo Mayhem.
Note
In the extremely unlikely event that there are no contestable windsurfing conditions Sept 27th to 29th then we will Roll Over the windsurfing competition to the following weekend of October 5th & 6th as a result unfortunately missing out the Battle for the Lake Festival.
