Arnaud de Rosnay was a French windsurfer, adventurer and photographer. His sailing featured many long distance, solo windsurf crossings including navigation of the Behring Strait, sailing between the Marquesas and the Tuamotu Archipelago, crossing the waters between Florida and Cuba and crossing the Strait of La Perouse between Hokkaido and Sakhalin. He was eventually lost at sea whilst attempting the crossing of Formosa between China and Taiwan, November 24, 1984.
Arnaud was also keen on windsurfing speed. He invented the first windsurfing speed sail and came second to none other than Robby Naish during the first speed event – the Speed Crossing: a 40-kilometer race from Fleming Beach to Maui, Hawaii, in 1981.
He is survived by his widow, Jenna de Rosnay, another windsurfing pioneer and champion in her own right, who’s been known to melt many a windsurfer’s heart.
