Windsurfing Champion and Personal Fitness Trainer, Keith Atkinson, shows us the second exercise in the fitness series, ‘The Lat Pulldown’. This is one of the best exercises to work the biggest muscle group in the back, the Lats (latissimus dorsi). This is a great stepping stone to the very tough ‘Bodyweight Pull-up’ exercise.
Having a functional body is key, that means being able to push and pull in many directions with strength and most importantly, stability! Whilst Windsurfing, you should be hold the boom at approximately shoulder level or just above, so you may think by replicating the windsurfing movement patterns for sport specific exercise is great, but you need to be strong in the other planes of movement also. Exercising in one movement pattern is NOT a good thing. Check out the video for the how-to on performing this great exercise for stronger Lats.
Keith is sponsored by; Goya Boards, North Sails, ION wetsuits, F-Hot Fins, Marlow Ropes, Clamcleat UK.
